The Periodical Section is a designated area in the library that provides access to a wide variety of serial publications, including newspapers, magazines, and academic journals. These resources are essential for users seeking current, timely, and subject-specific information for research, class requirements, or general knowledge.
This section supports students, faculty, and staff by offering both local and international titles covering relevant topics that mainly support the programs offered by SICC and a range of other subjects, such as:
· Agribusiness
· Criminology
· Entrepreneurship
· Public Administration
· Tourism Management
· News and current events
· Education and science
· Technology and health
· Business and economics
· Literature and arts
· Social and cultural issues
Periodicals are arranged for easy browsing, with issues displayed on the shelves by title. The collections also include selected subscribed online journals and magazines such as the Philippine E-Journals and Gale Onefile Periodicals 100, accessible through the library’s electronic resources at https://siccelib.blogspot.com. The articles in every issue of the printed journals and subscribed electronic journals and magazines are indexed and can be retrieved through our Online Access Public Catalog.
The Periodical Section is open to all library users and serves as a valuable resource for staying informed, conducting academic work, or simply exploring topics of interest from online newspapers.
Circulation Services, Policies, and Procedures for Periodicals
To
ensure the proper use and accessibility of materials in the Periodical Section,
the following policies and procedures apply:
In-Library Use Only
Most
periodicals—especially current issues and bound journals—are for library use
only to preserve their condition and ensure they remain available to all users.
Photocopying of articles is allowed upon request, following copyright
guidelines.
Check-In and Check-Out Services (When Applicable)
Older
or duplicate copies of some magazines or journals may be made available for
limited circulation. Transactions are processed through the SICC Follett
Destiny Library Manager (DLM system) at the Circulation/Reserved Desk and
Periodical Section with a valid student ID.
Search and Retrieval Assistance
The
circulation staff conducts searches for missing or hard-to-locate periodical
issues and can retrieve archived or problematic issues upon request. Assistance is
also available for using indexing tools or digital databases.
Special Use and Reserves
Faculty
may request specific issues of periodicals to be placed on reserve for classroom
use. The library may also set up special displays or thematic sections for
certain events or topics.
A librarian or library staff member is always available at the Circulation/Reserved Desk and Periodical Section to assist users with periodical-related inquiries and provide courteous, helpful service.
